The NNDC Welcomes New Chair, Vice Chair
Ann Arbor, Mich. (Feb. 16, 2016) – The National Network of Depression Centers is pleased to welcome a new Chair and Vice Chair to its Executive Committee. Elections were held between late 2015 and early 2016 to establish new NNDC leadership to follow the term end of Founding Chair John Greden, MD. J. Raymond DePaulo, MD, Henry Phipps Professor and Director of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Psychiatrist in Chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital, was elected by the NNDC Board of Directors to the role of Chair.
“I am honored to have the support of the NNDC Board of Directors,” says Dr. DePaulo, “and I look forward to continuing in the spirit of teamwork that Dr. Greden has so devoutly fostered.” Dr. DePaulo founded the Johns Hopkins Mood Disorders Program in 1977 and grew it from an outpatient clinic to a multifaceted inpatient, consultation, and outpatient program that became the center of patient care teaching and research in Mood Disorders at Johns Hopkins. Dr. DePaulo has been Vice Chair for the NNDC since 2011.
“Ray DePaulo has served the NNDC well as its Vice Chair,” says Dr. Greden. “He has a proven record at Johns Hopkins University for organizational growth and development that I am confident will translate to the NNDC during his time as Chair.” Dr. DePaulo was elected on a platform emphasizing a focus on collaborative research, establishing the NNDC as an authoritative and influential entity in mood disorder treatment and research, and overall growth of the NNDC. “Ray’s commitment to the NNDC and its vision is strong and clear,” Dr. Greden continued. “I am confident that his leadership will bring many beneficial developments to the organization.”
Since its foundation in 2008, the National Network of Depression Centers has grown to include 24 of the nation’s leading academic institutions. “John Greden’s vision and expertise has been the driving force behind much of the NNDC’s success to date,” Dr. DePaulo said. “That vision will continue to play an inspirational role in the future of this organization.” Dr. Greden will remain engaged in NNDC leadership as Chair Emeritus.
In addition, the Board of Directors voted to install John Oldham, MD, Interim Chair of the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Barbara and Corbin Robertson Jr. Endowed Chair for Personality Disorders, as the NNDC’s new Vice Chair. “I envision a strong future for the NNDC,” says Dr. Oldham. “We are on the right path to increasing NNDC brand recognition as a source of expert opinion and knowledge about bipolar and depressive illnesses. I look forward to working with the rest of the NNDC leadership team to ensure we stay on that path.”
Dr. Oldham joins Executive Committee Treasurer Allan Tasman, MD (University of Louisville), Secretary David Katzelnick, MD (Mayo Clinic), James Potash, MD, MPH (University of Iowa), and re-elected members Sarah Lisanby, MD (Duke University/NIMH) and Michael Thase, MD (University of Pennsylvania).
