The University of Massachusetts Medical School is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s first and only public medical school with a long history of excellence in psychiatry and primary care.  UMass has a Clinical and Translational Science Award that connects world-class basic science to outstanding clinical and translational research in the community, including the VA health care system and consultation to the Colleges of Worcester Consortium. The UMass Memorial Health Care system encompasses a very large clinical system in Central Massachusetts.  It provides various medical and psychiatric services including inpatient care, partial hospital care, day treatment programs, emergency services, pharmacologic services, and a full range of individual, family and group therapies.  The UMass Medical School / UMass Memorial Depression Center includes faculty and staff from many departments, including psychiatry, family medicine, medicine, OB-GYN, emergency medicine, surgery, neurology, and others. The UMass Medical School / UMass Memorial Department of Psychiatry has specialized clinics to treat and research psychiatric disorders including the Depression Specialty Clinic, Addictions and Comorbidity Treatment Service, Women’s Mental Health Clinic, Neuropsychiatry Clinic, and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program.  UMass Medical School / UMass Memorial Depression Center faculty have developed research programs in psychopharmacology, psychosocial, functional neuroimaging, basic neuroscience and epigenetics, co-occurring addictions, health services research, multi-cultural, and child/adolescent mood disorders supported by the NIH, VA, SAMHSA, Legacy Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, and other sources.
