The Johns Hopkins Hospital has been ranked as the #2 hospital in the country by U.S. News & World Report for 2012. In the same rankings, the Johns Hopkins Department of Psychiatry has been consistently among the top five, ranking second since 2008. The Center’s clinician/researchers, clinician/educators, geneticists, data managers and analysts, medical psychologists, postdoctoral fellows, epidemiologists and specialists in clinical trials form a department-within-a-department, all working toward advancing science, awareness and clinical care.
Johns Hopkins’ research focuses on identifying genes that confer risk for developing mood disorders. The work has several aspects including clinical assessment of people with bipolar disorder and major depression and their families, laboratory experiments using DNA from those who volunteer for studies, and analysis of the clinical and genetic information obtained.
