Cleveland Clinic Joins the National Network of Depression Centers

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, November 11, 2025 — Cleveland Clinic is the newest member of the National Network of Depression Centers (NNDC) following a recent vote by the NNDC Board of Directors.

The membership draws on Cleveland Clinic’s expertise in mood disorder treatment, including its Psychiatric Treatment-Resistance Program (PTRP), a leading center for the evaluation and management of patients with treatment-resistant mental health conditions. The program unites a full continuum of advanced interventional psychiatric services, including electroconvulsive therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, [es]ketamine, vagus nerve stimulation, deep brain stimulation, stellate ganglion block, and multiple clinical trials, within a single integrated framework, allowing patients to receive individualized assessments and streamlined access to the most effective treatment options for their needs.

PTRP embodies Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, partnering with departments across psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, primary care, nursing, pharmacy, and social work to deliver holistic, accessible care.

A leader in innovation, Cleveland Clinic has spearheaded several firsts in Ohio’s mental health landscape—including starting one of the state’s first psychedelic clinical trials and establishing the state’s first fully integrated interventional psychiatry service, underscoring Cleveland Clinic’s dedication to expanding both FDA-approved and experimental interventions for patients who have not responded to conventional therapies.

“Cleveland Clinic’s pioneering work in treatment-resistant depression exemplifies the NNDC mission—bringing together leading experts and institutions to accelerate discovery and improve lives,” said Matt Samocki, Ed.D, Executive Director of the National Network of Depression Centers. “Their membership strengthens our collective ability to address the complexities of mood disorders through collaboration and innovation.”

“Joining the NNDC allows us to share our research and treatment developments and collaborate with other leading centers working to transform depression care,” said Stephen Ferber, MD, Assistant Director of the Psychiatric Treatment-Resistance Program at Cleveland Clinic. “This will strengthen our collective ability to advance evidence-based care, accelerate discovery through shared data and best practices, and ensure that patients with complex mood disorders receive the most effective and innovative treatments available. We look forward to contributing to efforts in research, education, and public outreach to improve outcomes for patients nationwide.”

The NNDC is a national network of world-class institutions and collaborators united to lift the burden of depression, bipolar and other mental health conditions to advance people’s overall wellness. The organization works to transform people’s lives through innovations in research, driving care solutions and advancing collective community impact.

Now with 27 member sites across the United States and Mexico, the Network works to address next-generation mental health concerns through focused and collaborative commissions of researchers that include participants from NNDC members and Centers of Excellence. The NNDC research priorities represent a shared commitment to further state-of-the-art depression and mental health research and corresponding clinical care.

The NNDC has worked since 2008 to develop and foster connections through a national network to advance scientific discovery and provide stigma-free, evidence-based care to people with depressive and other mental health illnesses.
